Sean Clarke, Principal of Clarke Environmental Design

An avid outdoor enthusiast, Sean has designed and developed landscapes throughout California and the Southwest United States, shaping environments that invite people to slow down, reconnect, and feel at peace. His work spans parks, commercial developments, hospitality, and municipal projects, each grounded in a commitment to thoughtful design that promotes comfort, curiosity, and well-being.

Sean began his career as a high school intern at Daedalus Design Group, studying under mentor Jeffrey Smith. Before pursuing landscape architecture formally, he spent his early years painting motorcycles, helmets, and designing racing schemes. That artistic foundation still informs his eye for composition, texture, and detail. He went on to graduate from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona with a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture.

After gaining experience designing parks, large-scale commercial, municipal, and housing projects at an established firm, Sean took a leap and founded Clarke Environmental Design, Inc., where he could pour his energy into the kinds of projects that inspired him most.

Each landscape is thoughtfully composed from the ground up: site planning to create a sense of immersion in nature, layered planting, natural materials, and careful attention to spatial relationships. Special consideration is given to microclimate design (shade, sound, visual texture, and temperature) so that outdoor spaces feel genuinely inviting year-round.

"Places where people can truly experience nature and feel comfortable within it."

Approach

Design rooted in nature, built for people

Every project begins with a deep reading of the site: its climate, its ecology, its relationship to the people who will inhabit it. From there, design decisions emerge organically: planting that feels native to the place, spaces that encourage gathering and solitude in equal measure, and details that reward close attention.

Clarke Environmental Design brings this same considered approach to every scale of project, from intimate healing gardens to expansive public parks and rooftop environments in the heart of the city.
